#GivingTueday: Dressember Day 3

Today is Giving Tuesday, an national campaign created as a way to encourage charitable giving.  Tied to the (in)famous Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday holidays, Giving Tuesday aims to garner donations to fund organizations that highlight worthy causes and, for the majority, depend on donations, charitable giving, and private funding to maintain operations. This campaign really sets the tone to selflessly help others, rather than selfishly stock up on the newest gadgets and gifts.

The movement is redefining philanthropy. This movement has allowed for greater outreach to various populations by capitalizing on social media platforms and  savvy new technology approaches such as Twitter, Google+, and Google Hangout. Playing on the old-school idea of a televised “tele-o-thon”, a Hangout-o-thon, utilizing Google+ Hangout, has been introduced. Celebrities such as Jennifer Garner and Sophia Bush, have also brought their star-power to #GivingTuesday, participating in the Hangout-o-thon.

And Twitter? Well, lets just say the hashtag #GivingTuesday has been trending for most of they, with various people tweeting that they have donated to an organization today.

Please consider donating to an organization that really resonates with you. You still have a couple more hours to participate in this Giving Tuesday.
And don’t forget that you can donate to an organization and/or charity whenever you want to. It does not have to be Giving Tuesday to donate!

Need some ideas? Check these organizations out. They are doing incredible work.
